Energy efficiency investment brings warmth for West Lothian elderly couple
An elderly couple in West Lothian has managed to insulate their house and keep it warm using the Scottish Government’s Home Energy loan scheme, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.
South Queensferry pensioners Margaret and John Dickson saw the difference external wall insulation had made to a neighbour’s home and set about finding out how they could cut their bills and make their house warmer.
They applied to the Home Energy loan scheme which offers owners, occupiers and private landlords an interest-free loan to help with a variety of energy saving work. Margaret was delighted to discover a cashback scheme which would cut her bill in half from £9,000 to £4,500. She is now paying back the loan at £72 a month over five years.
Since it started, around a third of Scottish households have been offered advice by the Home Energy Scotland helpline. The Scottish Government has now extended the support available with schemes such as Warmer Homes Scotland and interest free loans for energy efficiency improvements.
As well as receiving money-saving advice and an assessment of their property by phone, households may be eligible to receive help to replace their old, inefficient boiler, which could reduce fuel bills by hundreds of pounds.
Wireless programmable thermostatic radiator valves offer the best returns in terms of energy efficiency and overall installation costs. The HeatSave wireless TRVs enable users to set specific functioning times for each valve, and, since radiators are individually controlled, home owners are fully capable to maximise the zoning potential and reduce energy consumption in those areas that are not used for longer periods of time (as for example, dining or sitting rooms and kitchens during the night, etc.).
Additionally, the HeatSave wireless thermostatic radiator valves also provide an automatic exercising feature when unused for 7 days, whose purpose is to minimise seizing of radiator valves in warmer months.
All in all, the HeatSave TRVs enable users to achieve some pretty impressive savings, as they will help reduce your heating bills by up to 30%, especially when coupled with the HeatingSave Building Energy Management System.
