Social tenants in Wigan and Leigh to get controllable radiators for lower bills

Wigan and Leigh Housing, who manages social housing on behalf of Wigan Council, has managed to secure funds amounting to £172,800 following a successful bid to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) Reach-Out competition, a news report in the local media has revealed.

The social housing association will use these funds in order to replace the electric storage heaters in some sheltered schemes with controllable radiators, which is expected to halve the average heating fuel consumption for tenants.

Unfortunately, installation is only due to begin in the spring of 2014, meaning that the social tenants will still have to face this winter’s bills.
